DC Comics Continue Destroying Superman as Marvel Double-Down on Events in January 2022 Solicitations

October 25, 2021

Marvel and DC Comics released their comic book solicitations for January 2022. Wes sorts through well over 100 previews to find hidden gems and outright stinker. DC Comics continue using new Superman Jon Kent as a sounding board for Tom Taylor’s politics. DC are light on #1 issues but over half the line star batman or a batman related character. (00:00) Marvel Comics are all about events and #1 issues in January. For some reason there are 8 total comics associated with Devils Reign. It seems a bit off base thinking a titles with low readership warrants such a wide-ranging comic event. Almost one-quarter of all Marvel Comics are also #1 issues as Marvel has run out of ideas to entice comic readers (29:53)

Odd timing, as Cyclops just quit his position as Captain Commander of Krakoa to lead the team. Dok and Wes also review X-Men: Trial of Magneto #3, one of the worst X-Men comics in recent memory. Comics And Entertainment Leave Fans With No Alternative with Doug Ernst

Comics And Entertainment Leave Fans With No Alternative with Doug Ernst

October 20, 2021

Journalist and comic book writer Doug Ernst joins Wes to talk about the lack of alternatives in comics and entertainment. DC Comics and Marvel Comics used to have separate identities and gave comic books readers choice.  Just four years ago Doug Ernst, a lifelong Marvel Comics reader, dropped Captain America for Super Sons. Marvel dropped the ball for years with Captain America, pushing a progressively further left agenda with the character. Superman represented a perfect to Cap. But times have changed rapidly. DC Comics in many ways has passed Marvel in pushing far-left political and social positions with their characters and stories. Much like the rest of entertainment and media. Leaving many comic book fans with no alternative in the mainstream. Don’t miss this in-depth conversation between Doug Ernst and Wes about the lack of alternatives in comics and entertainment.

(00:07:10) Marvel Comics EIC C.B. Cebulski once again has people calling for his job. Can WWE Rise to Meet AEW’s Challenge For Wrestling Dominance?

Can WWE Rise to Meet AEW’s Challenge For Wrestling Dominance?

October 16, 2021

Gevian Dargan, former assistant-editor at Milestone Comics, joins Wes for “It’s Complicated” to discuss hot-button issues from todays culture. Today Gevian and Wes discuss whether or not WWE can reinvent themselves as a real wrestling program once again. Ever since WCW died 20 years ago WWE has reigned supreme as the preeminent worldwide leader in sports entertainment. The lack of a true competitor led to brand stagnation even as profits grow. AEW have only existed as a wrestling brand for 2 years. Yet they have already slayed WWE’s third brand NXT in a head-to-head confrontation. Can AEW do what wrestling fans have begged for for years and challenge WWE Raw or Smackdown? Thus far, AEW has proven a viable alternative for wrestling fans. Now they need to show the masses that pro wrestling, not sports entertainment, is what produced world-wide phenomenons like Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin and The Rock. Once things for sure, WWE’s product will never improve until they are challenged to compete for their fans and dollars.
